One of the key stages of innovation is monetization. However, many a times we fail to convert this intangible asset into a tangible asset. This failure is due to many reasons, but a very common reason is lack of understanding and awareness of basic flow of course of innovation. There is a misconception that holding a patent right would translate into cash flow. Until the owner of the patent takes additional efforts to monetize those rights, a patent cannot be translated into an asset. Though we are aware about the issue, but we are not aware about the process of monetization to make a sizable profit.
The proposed session, “An Anatomy of Patent Monetization Strategy”, will unveil certain key steps and insight about the monetization process. We aim to discuss about various strategies that can be followed during initiation till deal making process

India has always been a land of sages, Gurus, skills, art and culture. It has a proud history where the royal courts have included skilled artisans proudly calling them as Jewels or Nav-ratnas. This was the era of Glorious India. With time passing, this centre of knowledge, skills and innovations shifted to western part of the world. Our indigenous skills got replaced by machines which were entirely of foreign origin. Eventually, the tag of Glorious India started fading and got lost and somehow, we also undermined our own skills and rich cultural heritage.

It has become important to understand that GI registration excludes the unauthorized persons from gaining wrongful advantage. GI is even more important to protect the consumers by assuring them of the authenticity of the product and making sure they are not deceived by persons passing off goods unrelated to the said geographical area. The primary objective of GI, i.e. benefit sharing and upliftment of local communities gets defeated when protection of GI is undermined.
In this session, we take you through the glimpse of GI registration journey along with the success stories of some GIs, which set an example about the importance of getting a GI registered. An excellent session planned for entrepreneurs to understand issues and challenges of early stage innovation. It spurred the people in the right direction and helped them to fructify energy.
Change, being the only constant, should come naturally to a growth-oriented business entity. Identification of such change in the form of innovation at early stage is key to success in competitive business environment. Innovation is the real essence of a successful business, but we seldom identify and realize the same at their early stage and hence often stay behind in the process of IP generation.
